Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin and worked first as a teacher and then for the Irish Times, for which she wrote feature articles and columns. Her first novel, LIGHT A PENNY CANDLE, made her famous in the UK and USA and since then she has written many bestsellers, including CIRCLE OF FRIENDS which was made into a film. She lives in Dublin with her husband, Gordon Snell.
